rosie sparkles busch

well, christmas came early to our kids this year.
i don't know what got into me, but i had this idea to get the kids a dog for christmas. as many of you know, i have not had the greatest affection for man's best friend. so this is a shock to a lot of you. (please don't tell the pet adoption agency this!)
on thursday of last week, adam visited an animal shelter and found 'puppy'. she's a black lab mix, they think she is about 3/4 lab. she's 10 months old, potty trained, super sweet and we had her 2 weeks early.
after a bit of juggling and trying to find a place for her to stay (thanks braden!) we thought we might be able to keep her hidden until christmas. but, after some more thinking, we were worried that the 2 weeks was too long of a transition period for her.
so on friday night, we introduced 'puppy' to the kids. after some screaming and questions "is she really ours? "can we keep her?" the kids fell in love immediately.

norah, we think, will love this dog forever. even when the magic wears off for the other kids, we are pretty sure norah will always love her. we found them tonight, cuddling under our dining room table.

our first morning with our 'puppy'. norah was trying to play with her. literally. toys and all.

and so was grace.

jay loves her, too. he has a lot more responsibilities with her. i'm not sure where the pictures are to prove it, i guess they got deleted - but i'll be sure to post some of him with her.

after much deliberation, and even a vote (between lola and rosie and sparkles), we named our 'doggy' rosie. (yes, i meant to have a play on words, rose bush...)
grace was very upset we didn't name her sparkles, so we tried to compromise with making her middle name sparkles. she still wasn't happy, and proceeds to call her sparkles. as some of you with little girls who love barbie movies may know, sparkles is the name of little lap dog that is in the diamond castle movie. when she says sparkles, it comes out more like, barkles.

so, our first 48 hours with rosie have been great! no accidents in the house. i have hardly heard her bark. she loves the kids. even with loud noises or shouting, it doesn't seem to phase her. we went out to the back yard and played fetch with her, she really plays it! she brings the ball back and everything! (we may have found a use for that christmas tree, too. yesterday she was hiding behind it chewing her bone. i guess she was afraid of someone or something taking it!) she sleeps in her crate (a must-have according to the animal shelter. because she was in one for so long, they ask you to get one so she feels 'at home' or secure.) at least she's not in my bed!

WOw, great that you could get a bowser that was house trained already. Labs have the sweetest nature of any dog I know of. Great idea for J to have responsibility too.
