last night we sat together as a family (well, most of the time we were together! norah kept getting up!) and lit our first candle, the candle of hope. we read some scripture about the prophecies in isaiah regarding the birth of christ. the kids were really responsive. jayden read and re-read the bible verses, helped grace when she seemed to not understand what we were talking about. we even sang 'o little town of bethlehem'! at the end we each went around sharing what our hopes were for the christmas season. grace hopes she will get the diamond castle barbies. jayden hoped jesus is alive. and while jayden was sharing, norah walked up to us and said, gammie? papa? (i think she just realized they were gone!) but it was also cute because it seemed like she was hoping gammie and papa would be here (which they will be on jan 4!). adam hoped for a good time with nana and john when they come on christmas eve and i hoped for lots of good memories this year.
i'm hoping to remind them tonight at dinner what it is to hope and why we celebrate christmas with an attitude of hope.

I think starting your own tradition is great! What a great way to bring home the truth to little lives amid all the commercialism.
that is so sweet. what precious memories for your family.
