Hey Everyone...
The other night I was goofing around on the computer and found a life saver!
A lot of you know that I subscribe to Cooking Light magazine, which i have come to know and love very much for the past 2.5 years. About a year ago I started to subscribe to Real Simple, as well. Well, i have piles of magazines that i use each week for my "menu's" of dinners, etc. Each time I write a menu out I usually write the initial of the magazine or cookbook that I am going to need, along with the month and year of it and the page number. WOW! with 3 kids, that is time consuming, not to mention each time I go through past menu's, (yup i have saved just about every menu I have ever made for the last 2.5 years!) I then have to hunt the mag/book down, then the page number and then make my grocery list... LOTS OF WORK!!
So now that you know my history, here's the life saving web site I found.
MyRecipes.com
I was searching for Cooking Light's website, to try and start saving all of my recipes in a collection, like I have on MarthaStewart.com. Well, CL uses MyRecipes.com, as well as about 6 other different magazines! Including Real Simple! I went through all of those menu's i have saved and found every single Cooking Light and Real Simple recipe i have ever made on this web site!! I am so excited, I thought I would share both the knowledge of this recipe web site and the collection I have saved so far... I thought it might be cool that those of you who have started to subscribe to either of those mag's, or if you have subscribed to them in the past, or if you subscribe to any of the other 6 they use (I know Southern Living and Sunset were 2 of them) then you might be able to start your own collection and pass them along. I'm always bored with what I am making and would love to see what you are cooking up for your family... They will also store any of your personal recipes. So if you have time, you can type in your personals...
So, now I have all of those recipes either saved on MyRecipes.com or MarthaStewart.com (she also saves recipes from her shows, all of her mags including those cute little cook books you find in the check out aisle of your grocery store, Everyday Food).
I hope you have at least tolerated this long e-mail... I'm just so excited to be more organized in this little part of life that sometimes stresses me out (ok, if you know me at all, it is a part of my life that REALLY stresses me out). I love that I can put my laptop on the counter, find the recipe i need quickly, make a menu, make a grocery list, shop and then cook away! I even use the laptop to read and follow recipes from, so no more goopy, greasy magazine pages!!
Here is a link to ''My First Cookbook'', which I have created using Recipe Finder. http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=viewBuddyCookbook&encid=8C9C6CBF29B1B58225F49E5D6BF3174A61A30CFC499E1A4484A48C852A195C93
And then when I told my sister Elisabeth, she discovered something even more awesome than I could imagine! You can actually click on these recipes and have it make your grocery list! YUP!! That's what i said! I just made my first one... I clicked on 5 recipes and asked it to make a shopping list for me, and it did!! It added it all up on one list and all i had to do was print away! Another cool feature is, you can go through the list first and if you have the ingredient already, you can delete it from the list. Or if you want to put your general day-to-day stuff, you can add 'em!
I am so excited about this site!
BTW, have any of you been able to add your recipes and want to share them with me yet?? Jen gave me a site from ivillage that will email you a recipe a day. here's that link:

Also, I added a clip of the brilliant dance Grace does to the post below. check it out ;)

Great idea! I am constantly flipping through old magazines and random loose papers.
I created a cookbook on that site as well, you can check it out at:

Thanks!!!!!!!
I forgot to add ~ I was so excited to see that you can also add your own recipes! So you dont have to flip through all your cookbooks to find your favorites. I added most of my favorite recipes that I cook often... too cool
Okay - this is so cool. I just planned my meals for the week, created my shopping list, and emailed it to my BlackBerry! Off to Whole Foods for a well planned shopping trip and a healthy week ahead!
