Today was a great day. I truly feel alive, blessed, and joy as I sit here typing. It began like most do, up early with the kids. Breakfast as soon as I can function, which is usually after i consume a diet coke, then getting everybody dressed and ready for the day. Because Adam has been in New York the last few days, I have assumed the role of single parent. I felt the responsibility weight today. I was tired and lonely. I thought we could run to Target for a little bit, just to get out of the house. Norah got up from her nap and we headed to Sonic for a little lunch. We were sitting in the car, eating and chatting. I gave Norah a Gerber wagon wheel snack (a baby sized yummy) and Jayden asked me what was a wagon wheel. I described them by using Little House on the Prairie as an example. Rememer how Pa and Ma don't have cars? How they drive around town in a wagon pulled by horses? He remembered and then asked why they didn't have cars then. I said that they hadn't thought of them yet. This is when it gets really good...
Jayden: Who was the very first person?
Me: God created a man named Adam first.
Jayden: Adam? Like daddy?
Me: No, it's a different Adam. God created the whole universe, our world and everything. The sky, the water, the land, animals... everything.
Jayden: So it wasn't Jesus first?
Me: No, Jesus didn't come for a long time.
Jayden: How come?
Me: Well, there were a lot of people who were doing bad things. God wanted to help us so we could live with him forever. So he sent Jesus. Jesus helped people, he taught people how to make good choices and be good people. He is sort of like a superhero. He'll help us if we ask him into our hearts. But the bad people did something really bad to him. They killed him. Do you remember that?
Jayden: Oh yeah, i remember that. It was on a movie at Jo's house.
Me: The people buried him and what did God do after 3 days?
Jayden: He made him come to alive again.
Me: Yup. Do you know why?
Jayden: No
Me: To show God's power. To show that he loves us so much that he sent his son to earth to live and die for all the bad things we do. God is more powerful than all of the bad people. The best thing about having Jesus is that when we die, we get to go to heaven and see him and each other again. But if we don't choose him, we don't get to go to heaven.
Jayden: Did you ask Jesus into your heart?
Me: Yup. When I was a little girl I did.
Jayden: Did Daddy?
Me: Yes.
Jayden: And Gamma and Papa? Nana and John? Papa and Kathleen?
Me: Yes, yes, and yes.
Jayden: Oh.
Me: And your aunts did, too. Have you asked Jesus into your heart?
Jayden: No.
Me: Do you want to?
Jayden: Yes.
Me: Well, you have to pray to Him and ask him to come into your life.
Jayden: Do I have to close my eyes?
Me: No, closing your eyes is just so you aren't distracted when you talk to God or Jesus. As long as your heart means what you are saying, you don't have to close your eyes. Do you want me to pray and you can copy me?
Jayden: Yes.
So we prayed that Jesus would come into our hearts, that he would take away the bad things we have done and help us make good choices. We thanked him for dying on the cross and loving us. And I cried.
It is truly amazing. I have been thinking a lot about predestination and ordained moments in our lives (thanks to Big Brother 8!). Just yesterday I had a flash of a thought, what if we all die? Will my kids go to Heaven? Jayden is of an age where he can make a choice for himself. Has he? Then today, we have this amazing moment, one perfect moment. No distractions or peer pressure. Jayden made a choice to follow Jesus today. I want to remember every minute, every thing we said.
He asked me if all people are good. I told him no, which followed with him asking why. Well, some people choose to be bad, they don't want Jesus in their lives. Others just don't know about him. That is why it is so important to tell everyone we know about Jesus. I told him how Auntie April is going to move far away and live with people who might not know Jesus. I told him that his Papa Mel has gone to lots of countries all over the world to tell people, and so has his Papa Bart.
Jayden: And Gamma, too?
Me: Yup, Gamma has gone, too.
Then the moment was over and we drank our root beer and Jayden burped his ABC's. I think the angels in heaven are celebrating and loving it.
